Metadata acts like smart labels that help you categorize, filter, and analyze your user research across projects and participants.

📚 What is Metadata?

Metadata is a system of customizable labels you apply to your research data to describe specific attributes—like participant details, company size, industry, seniority, region, or even custom criteria your team defines.

Think of it as a layer of structure you apply to your raw data to make searching, filtering, and analysis 10x easier.

✨ Why Use Metadata?

Metadata let you filter your data within and across projects with precision. For example:

  • Want to only see feedback from enterprise users?

  • Looking for quotes from decision-makers in the UK?

  • Looking for user interviews to run with new users?

Use metadata filters to narrow your view instantly.

You can apply these filters in:

  • Files (‘Projects tab’ → ‘Files’)

  • Global Search

  • Search inside a project (Your Project → ‘Analysis’ → ‘Search’, To know more about Searching on Looppanel, click here : 🔎 How to Search in a Project on Looppanel)

Once your metatags are in place, you can:

  • Segment user responses by tag (e.g., compare SMB vs. enterprise users)

  • Understand patterns across specific personas or geographies

  • Tailor insights to different stakeholder groups

This makes your analysis richer, more structured, and easier to present.

🧠 Where Can You Manage Metatags?

Head to ‘Settings’Workspace SettingsManage Metadata

Here, you can:

  • Edit or delete existing metadata

  • Create new metadata fields or groups

Once you’ve created Metadata fields, you’ll be able to use these across all files you upload to Looppanel. Metadata is centrally managed for the entire workspace.

📌 Tip: Consistent and thoughtful metadata tagging improves your long-term research hygiene.

🧠 Where Can You Add Metadata to a File?

After adding a file to Looppanel, you can find the “Metadata” button on the top right hand side.

You can either add a new metadata group, or choose from the existing metadata options!

Quick reminder: Any additions to the Metadata options will show up for all your files in the workspace.

🧠 How Metadata Can Help You

→ Within your project space, you can filter your files on the basis of metadata

Project → Filter by → Metadata

→ You can also filter your global search, across your entire workspace on the basis of metadata

Workspace → Search → Filter by
